Blackbodybag Series, 2018
Archival ink-jet print on Hahnemühle Photorag
31.4 x 47.1 cm | 12.4 x 18.5 in
Edition 5 + 2APs
The Blackbodybag series is a documentation of a performance whereby Oluseye responds to the hiking incidents of police brutality against Black men globally, but in particular, in the US and Canada. Inspired by the ritualistic dance of Yoruba Egungun masquerades, the artist breathes life into a refuse bag – a symbol of death and discard – imbuing the everyday with spiritual transcendence.
